When broken down to its core, my experience has shown me that over the past 20 years professional recruiting, whether agency or internal, has not changed much. Despite the availability of new software and web or mobile applications the recruitment process can be filled with conflicting agendas which make it difficult to streamline and so it remains bulky, costly and filled with risk.
Perhaps, Heath Ledger put it best, when he portrayed the Joker in Christopher Nolan’s, The Dark Knight, as he spoke to the team of gangsters and eluded to the fact that they had to deal with the real problem, the Batman. Batman simply wants and arguably does do good and helps people. In reality, he is still a vigilante that helps by often hurting another; a gangster in his own right and precariously walking a fine line between right and wrong.
Many feel this way about my profession, I think I can say with confidence that true recruitment professionals have great intentions, want to help, can and do add massive value to employers and applicants. But as the saying goes, “the road to hell is paved with good intentions.”
The truth is, conflicts and legacy practices in recruitment are positioning the recruiter in a precarious position like Batman. So perhaps it’s time to remove of the mask and show recruiters true nature. The vast majority of recruiters are business professionals, each with a good conscience, who work tirelessly to ease your recruitment and hiring woes.
I propose we collectively transform the recruitment market itself and open it up to be more transparent and accountable on both sides of the process. The first step will be for businesses to put down their arms and stop blaming recruiters for industry created issues and start dealing with the elephant in the room - Accountability, respect & transparency
That’s our starting point and the basis for our plan of turning the recruitment process and industry on its head. We’re going to start by redeveloping, redesigning and remodelling the process. We’re striving to make simple, but sophisticated changes that will create an open, transparent recruitment service with accountability built in to every stage. From the recruiter, employer and through to the applicant, we will make a concerted effort to reduce the cost of resourcing for all. In business, time is the most precious and finite resource, and at the very heart of what we’re trying to accomplish with ViNKUM.
ViNKUM.com is our team’s latest creation which puts you in the recruitment driver’s seat, whether you are the employer, applicant or recruiter, ViNKUM will seek to level the playing field for all parties involved. Further, ViNKUM will work with all stakeholders to encourage each to be mindful of time, incentivise an open resourcing system that focuses on faster turnaround, accountability and transparency.
Our mission is simple:
To protect the integrity and craft of recruitment by ensuring both employers and job seekers have equal access to opportunity through a professional recruitment process.
Candidate, recruiter or employer you get to nominate your terms in one simple step thus opening and making the process transparent from end-to-end.
Employers decide up front what reward they want to pay for a candidate introduction referral.
Recruiters present the resources they are managing in a way that respects both the privacy of the candidate and the employers, who have agreed to the terms.
Applicants can apply direct to any role, but go through a professional recruiter consultation first to ensure the role is right for them.
Peer-to-peer (P2P) resourcing and social media are at the core of our new application and users will be able to make a referral to an advertised job and to access the reward offered by the employer for the person they hire.
Finally, we’re removing the idea of candidate ownership. The ViNKUM platform is based on trust, access to opportunity and building relationships. Thus candidate ‘ownership’ is a thing of the past. Recruiters or peers who are referring a friend or peer for a role can only own the referral.
We’re already experimenting with companies, recruiters, active job seekers and P2P resources which we’ve aptly named, “agent X” and the results have been incredible. P2P resourcing for top talent, industry accountability and transparency are now a reality and ViNKUM is ready to go at a moment’s notice.
